The most famous boycotter in history is back with a vengeance. I’m sick and tired of Hollywood and their butchering of movies. It has become all to common place for a young director to be handed over the reins of a well-known storyline such as Superman, only to have him botch the plot. I watched Superman Returns a week ago and was disheartened at how a director could botch such a famous and well known storyline; I never thought that I would witness a superman film that was not well received.
Lex Luthor is the villain in the movie; the film begins with superman’s whereabouts unknown and Luthor seizing the moment to infiltrate the fortress of solitude (Great idea by the director but I would think that the governments of the world with their sophisticated tracking/location systems would have beaten Luthor to the punch, but I diegress). He then steels a crystal that contains the history and collected technological advancements of 25 galaxies, each of which are 1000 years ahead of our own in technological terms. (At this point I’m thinking. One of the most diabolical masterminds ever finally will have the means of taking over not only the world but the universe and on top of that finally riding himself of his nemesis, superman) It is at this point in the movie that the director dropped the ball. Luthor has the combined intellect of 25 galaxies and all he can think to do with it is make land. He could have made trillions of dollars from selling a few alien supplied patent worthy gadgets to an unsuspecting populous and used that money to buy all the damn land he wanted. But no he throws a kryptonite laced crystal into the ocean, makes his own island, and dares superman to vote him off of it. This plot twist was a humongous mistake by the director. He also mistakenly gave superman a son from a past fling with Louis Lane. He furthered the error by making soops jr. immune to the effects of kryptonite. This guy must have written the script after watching a Dragonball Z marathon. (He even added in the part where Soops uses “instant transmission” to save people across the globe.) Well I’m gonna stop here so you’ll just have to watch the movie for yourself and dislike it for your own reasons. Believe me, they can use the revenue.
